Indian Warehouses, for Writer Corporation, India
We designed a series of large-scale storage warehouses on the outskirts of major Indian cities for Writer Corporation, a logistics company. In each case the building massing was given to us, dictated by a combination of zoning requirements and the client’s specific storage needs.
We conceived the façades as transmitters of ambient light – picking up on the traditional Indian jali, or light filtering screen. The client was interested in managing the intense heat and glare of the sun to limit the need for artificial cooling devices. The warehouses have large fins or projections in various sculptural shapes, allowing the movement of diffuse light into the space while providing a striking, iconic exterior for the ‘big box.’
